2021 Grant Cycle (OPEN)

African American Legacy is now accepting applications for the 2021 grant cycle to community organizations with a strong commitment to social justice and a programmatic focus on the following areas:

2021 Focus Areas:

AAL will support Black community organizations working in alignment on the following:

  • Education– we seek to support organizations that provide academic enrichment assistance to Black students, grades K-12
  • Mental Health– we seek to support organizations that prepare providers or community members to deliver or advocate for trauma informed care that actively responds to the disproportionate burden of stress on Black people and Black communities due to employment instability, financial strain, family stress, trauma and gun violence
  • Activism– we seek to support organizations that actively dismantle anti-Black racism and advances the Movement for Blacks Lives in Chicago
  • Arts– we seek to support arts and cultural organizations that share and celebrate the lived experiences of Black people past and present
  • Job Creation– we seek to support organizations that create jobs through social enterprises, worker cooperatives or micro entrepreneurship for youth, ages 16 to 24

AAL Launches COVID-19 Survey

Dear Community Partners,

African American Legacy, an initiative of The Chicago Community Trust, needs your help in assessing challenges faced within the African-American community. This survey will provide much-needed insight into how the COVID-19 pandemic is impacting Black-led and Black-serving organizations, and how existing resources can be marshaled to appropriately respond to emerging needs.

2020 Grant Cycle Open!!!!

African American Legacy is now accepting applications for the 2020 grant cycle to community organizations with a strong commitment to social justice and a programmatic focus on the following areas:

Arts: we seek to support artistic expression that shares and celebrates the lived experience of Black Chicagoans. 

Immigration: we seek to support policy/systems change and direct service specific to those of the African Diaspora. 

Mental Health: we seek to support trauma-informed care that actively responds to street, gun and police violence. 

Youth Micro-Entrepreneurship: we seek to support 6 to 12-month efforts that prepare youth, ages 16-24, to start, run and grow a business.

 Join us with your morning cup of coffee, virtually, for a Community Peer Exchange conversation with former, current, and future grantees. This light conversation will provide a space to share and learn from one another on how you are tackling unique organizational and programmatic challenges, emerging from the COVID-19 pandemic. Consuella Brown, AAL’s Grant Consultant will kick-off the conversation with a few questions such as: What does your organization need, in addition to money, in the next 30 days?  What resources have you found to be invaluable in helping you and your organization navigate these unprecedented times?
